Graphic Novel and Reflection
The goal during the graphic novel process was to do something as relatable as possible. I enjoyed how people drew based off their cultures but I decided to draw about Garfield. Everyone knows who he his, the big fat orange cat. We also know what his favorite things are homemade lasagna and not traditional cat food. I think this is one of the more unique ideas I’ve had in a while because it fits so well between having to make a comic, it being food based, and how it needed to be fairly short. The comic specifically targeted college students, having to rely on food outside of home. People always say that fast food places get sick and tiring after a few months of eating nothing just that. College students say that if they could get some of their parents cooking that they would do it in a heartbeat they miss it that much. Similar to that, Garfield is someone who loves to sleep in when he can and eat food his owner Jon makes him, which sounds a lot like the average college student when they come back home. Despite how restrictive the comic book is, I think this was my favorite assignment so far because I didn’t really know who I wanted to draw about and seeing other people’s drawing gave me inspiration and an idea that I liked before, and I still like now. Garfield, despite it being something I like, would have never crossed my mind if I didn't have a project about comics and food.
I like how you connected your novel to Garfield I think it was very creative and different. I also like how in your reflection you mentioned your target audience. - Shaniyah
ReplyDeleteThis is a hilarious story. I love how you really capture Garfield and his love for lasagna. I love the drawings too.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed how the targeted viewing group was everyone. You tried to make this as relatable as possible and I think you did a great job. I also enjoyed how you made the fat sluggish after he ate the processed food. Good job
ReplyDeleteI really liked how you used Garfield to get the message across about college students missing home-cooked meals. Everything was really easy to understand and creative, and the format was modeled after a graphic novel. -Briana
ReplyDeleteYou're connection between Garfield, food and culture was unique and creative. I have never thought about food in this sense, so it was interesting to read both your graphic novel and your reflection. You're graphic novel also has a sprinkle of humor to it which made it enjoyable to read and think about the ideas being conveyed. - Bless
ReplyDeleteI throughly enjoyed your comic strip and inspiration of Garfield. Your reflection answers all of the questions expect for "What is a reading/writing assignment/class discussion that has broadened/deepened your understanding of your ideas? Remember to cite it appropriately!"
ReplyDeleteGreat job!

Your graphic novel was really funny and the use of Garfield was very creative! The message about home cooking was nicely said and illustrated through Garfield's reaction to Jon's lasagna. The parallels were nicely made and clear. Good Job! - Chris
ReplyDeleteI really liked that you fixed your drawings! They look amazing. Also, the fact that you related Garfield to college students is amazing, because it is true. College students just want a meal they are familiar with, but they can’t because they are away. I appreciate the effort you put into this graphic novel project! - Gabby
ReplyDeleteIt was really cool that your graphic novel reflected your time here at Syracuse and many who read this can understand and relate to what you are reflecting. It was difficult to see your comic strip so in the future I would just do close up shots. However, your reflection really elaborated on the purpose which was great, so that was really good!- Jaleel Cardoso
ReplyDeleteI really like the updated version of your drawings! I think that using the concept of Garfeild gave the graphic novel a comical undertone. This was a super creative way of expressing how your experience at SU has been, awesome job!! - Isabella :)
